I don't think the issue here is that IT is not cool; the issue is where can I learn and put to use the new technologies. I used to work for a huge insurance company and was what I call a "button guy". I came in and did the same thing and could not stray from that "one button." I quit and went to a small non-profit and I can do *almost* anything. The VP of IT encourages me to have my team learn new things and bring new technology to the agency. I think the biggest reason is that there is not a group of "higher ups" clueless and making decisions.
